This is a moving tale that shows your readers the roots or foundations of your life. Many of us came up in a similar way; caught within a changing society. Our parents could not quite reconcile themselves with our need for open love and affection, even though they truly loved us. I saw that in my father too, though thankfully he never thrashed me…
Your blog is one of the better Kenyan ones for the quality of your writing-and the jokes too!

I just read some of your blogs, notably ‘truce with my father’ and ‘overdrawn by overdraft protection’, and watched your video of your trip to Kenya, and I got to tell you I teared up and laughed out loud at sections of all of them. I like that you are humorous yet sensitive to these stories. I can also just ‘hear’ the Kenyan in you and that makes it so much more ‘soulful’ in a way only a Kenyan can.
